“I’ve paid for insurance for years and have never had a claim.  I’ve paid all that premium for nothing since I’ve never had to “use” the insurance!”

I’ve lost count on the number of times I’ve heard the above comment or a variation of it in relation to insurance.  Whoa, Nelson.  I’ll try to lend an accurate perspective here.  The bottom line is…you’re using your insurance every minute of every day!

Let me use an analogy here to prove my point:  Imagine you own a well trained guard dog that protects your home night and day.  You’ve spent a lot of money on training, food, vet bills, etc.  but, you have the satisfaction knowing that if someone is foolish enough to try to enter your home, he’ll regret it and either leave at the speed of sound or he’ll be apprehended.  The guard dog gives you peace of mind even if he can’t or won’t protect you from every possible threat.  Stay with me here!…In this scenario, if no one were to break in, would you honestly say reflecting back, that the guard dog provided you absolutely nothing, you never had a chance to “use” your dog and your money was completely wasted?  No!

Insurance is 24/7 protection for your home, car or other property.  You can’t touch or see the protection, but it’s there.  You’re using your insurance every day in benefiting from the protection and peace of mind it provides you.  Yes, policies do have limitations, exclusions and conditions.  They’re spelled out in the policy.  If you’re wondering about what your policy does or does not cover, it sounds like a perfect time for you to call your agent and in the end, feel better about your insurance coverage.

I hope this helps.
